The Miele Boost CX1 is a high-end bagless canister vacuum from Miele. It is part of Miele's small line-up of bagless canister vacuums and features a 1200W motor with a bagless filter design. Depending on the variant you choose, this model can be fitted with floorheads made for particular surface types. The vacuum offers HEPA filtration, an auto cord retractor, and four levels of suction power.
There are several variants that come with different accessories, and some are region-specific. See the available options in the Differences Between Variants section.
The Miele Boost CX1 offers satisfactory performance on bare floors. However, it does a poor job picking up medium or large debris on bare floors, as it tends to plow these around. It's much better for fine debris like sand, though, especially when it's caught in your floors' cracks and crevices. It also makes extra cleaning passes easy by being maneuverable and decently portable, and its high-capacity dirt compartment means you won't need to empty it very frequently. It's very well-built and quite quiet. Unfortunately, there are a lot of parts to maintain and high recurring costs, despite the bagless design.
Easily picks up fine material.
Great build quality.
Quiet.
Easily lifts fine-debris from cracks and crevices.
Lots of parts to clean and maintain.
High recurring cost for a bagless vacuum.
Struggles with medium and large debris.
The Miele Boost CX1 delivers decent performance cleaning low-pile carpet. It works well on fine material but struggles with medium and large debris since it pushes it around rather than sucking it up. However, its turbo floorhead works much better on pet hair in low-pile carpet. It's also easy to pick up and maneuver this vacuum around a carpeted room. However, there are a lot of parts to maintain, and the recurring cost is surprisingly high for a bagless vacuum.
Easily picks up fine material.
Great build quality.
Quiet.
Lots of parts to clean and maintain.
High recurring cost for a bagless vacuum.
Struggles with medium and large debris.
The Miele Boost CX1 is reasonable at cleaning high-pile carpet. Its high-pile carpet pickup performance is acceptable, but it has trouble with medium and large debris, which it plows around. Its high suction means it does better with fine material, and the dirt compartment is large enough to hold all the dust from long cleaning sessions. If you have pets, you'll find the turbo floorhead does a good job on pet hair. And this well-built vacuum shouldn't be too disruptive in your house when you're cleaning the carpet, since it's so quiet. However, the complicated filter means there are a lot of parts to maintain.
Easily picks up fine material.
Great build quality.
High suction and airflow.
Quiet.
Lots of parts to clean and maintain.
High recurring cost for a bagless vacuum.
Struggles with medium and large debris.
The Miele Boost CX1 is a decent choice for pet owners. Pet hair pickup on carpet is good with its turbo brush, but it's exceptional with its upholstery tool on furniture. The dirt compartment is large enough to hold a substantial amount of pet hair, and the low noise shouldn't disturb your pet too much. It won't be able to clean up stains your pet may leave, though. You may also find that its complicated filter needs a lot of maintenance.
Fantastic performance picking up pet hair from furniture fabric.
Great build quality.
High suction and airflow.
Quiet.
Lots of parts to clean and maintain.
High recurring cost for a bagless vacuum.
Can't clean stains.
The Miele Boost CX1 is good on stairs. It's decently portable with a long power cord, and its small floorhead is highly maneuverable along stair treads. While it has some difficulty with medium and large debris, its high suction means it easily picks up fine material. Cleaning stairs with this sturdy, well-built vacuum won't be too noisy for your housemates either.
Great build quality.
High suction and airflow.
Long power cord.
Quiet.
Struggles with medium and large debris.
The Miele Boost CX1 does a good job cleaning cars. Its power cord is long enough to use the vacuum in the driveway or garage, and it's portable enough to haul it out to your car without much trouble. Its high suction through its crevice tool or upholstery tool will easily clean automotive fabrics. It's also quiet in the confined space of a car interior.
Great build quality.
High suction and airflow.
Long power cord.
Quiet.
The Miele Boost CX1 shouldn't be used in the workshop because large, hard, sharp, or abrasive debris typically found in a workshop can damage its internal components.
High suction and airflow.
Struggles with medium and large debris.
Not suitable for workshop use.
The variants are supplied with different floorheads and accessories depending on their intended use. They're also equipped with one of two different filters, though the filters are interchangeable. Many more variants are only available in the EU.

The Miele Boost CX1 is a high-end bagless canister vacuum that shares many of the same internals and components with Miele's well-known bagged canister vacuums. It shares the 1200W motor with Miele Classic C1 and Miele Complete C3, and since it also shares floorheads with Miele's other models, the Boost CX1's performance is similar. The design of Miele's straight-suction and turbo floorheads puts them too low to the floor to vacuum up all medium and large material, but their high suction makes them ideal for fine debris and cracks.
The Boost CX1 has no powerhead and can't be upgraded, so its performance picking up pet hair with its air-powered turbo brush floorhead isn't quite as good as the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog with its powerhead. The Boost CX1's bagless design should lower recurring cost since you don't have to buy dirtbags, but unfortunately, the Boost CX1's yearly-replaceable filter actually costs more than a year's supply of dirtbags for the Classic C1.
If you're looking for other alternatives, take a look at our recommendations for the best canister vacuums, the best bagless vacuums, or the best vacuums with good suction.
The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal is a slightly better vacuum overall than the Miele Boost CX1. It performs a little better on every floor surface, is much easier to maintain, and has zero recurring cost versus the Miele's expensive replaceable filter. The Miele is much better built, though.
The Dyson V15 Detect and the Miele Boost CX1 are very different vacuums—their only common feature is that they're both bagless. The Dyson performs much better overall, though. It's a little easier to maintain and has zero recurring cost. But the Miele is a canister vacuum, so it has a much larger dirt compartment, plus it has higher build quality than the Dyson.
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra/Complete is a better vacuum than the Miele Boost CX1. It performs better on every floor surface, is easier to maintain, and has virtually no recurring cost. But since it's a big, heavy upright, it's less portable and harder to maneuver than the Miele canister, and Dyson also can't match Miele's build quality.
The Miele Classic C1 is a better vacuum than the Miele Boost CX1. Since they both use the same motor and floorhead, performance is about the same, but the Classic C1 is much easier to maintain. Its dirtbag contains all the dust, so you won't have to clean parts. Recurring costs should be lower on the Boost CX1 because it's bagless, but it uses a replaceable filter that's more expensive than the C1's dirtbags.
This vacuum is reasonably easy to maintain, though its multi-stage filter increases the number of components that need maintenance.
You can easily cut any hair wrapped around the TurboTeQ brushroll with scissors, following a groove down the brushroll. There's also a small door to clean the air turbine powering the brushroll, but unfortunately, you can't remove the brushroll. It's very difficult and time-consuming to disassemble and clean the floorhead, leading to debris getting stuck inside the floorhead body. This old material can fall back out onto the floor during cleaning sessions.
The filters are much easier to clean. You can easily remove the filter frame, pre-filter, foam filter, and pleated paper filter and clean them when required. You should replace the exhaust filter once a year or when the timestrip indicator turns red. You can also replace the thread lifter on the AllTeQ universal floorhead when it wears out by prying it off with a screwdriver or similar tool.
Complete maintenance details are in the user manual on Miele's website.
Since the Miele Boost CX1 is bagless, there are fewer parts to replace than a bagged vacuum like the Miele Classic C1.
You'll only need to replace the exhaust filter, which you can purchase from Miele's website. The Cat & Dog variant comes with a HEPA filter, while the base variant comes with a Hygiene AirClean Filter. You can use either filter on both variants.
This filter should be replaced every 50 hours of operation or about once a year. The HEPA filter comes with a timestrip showing its remaining life. Our time strip arrived detached and activated, and couldn't be reattached.
The Miele Boost CX1's dirt compartment capacity is very good. It can actually hold 2.35 L of material, far more than its advertised capacity. However, this much debris may cause clogs or decrease the filter's life. The dirt compartment has a line printed on its exterior indicating its maximum capacity.
Documentation
This vacuum has a decent range. Its cord length is longer than its bagged equivalent, the Miele Classic C1, while its hose length and minimum wand length are a bit shorter.
The vacuum's portability is satisfactory, but it's quite a bit heavier than the bagged Miele Classic C1.
The vacuum has a few quality-of-life features. The large foot-operated buttons toggle the power or retract the cord. There's also a dial that selects between four power levels. You can also raise and lower the bristles on the universal floorhead to avoid scratching bare floors or pulling up carpet.
This vacuum has two floorheads: a straight-suction AllTeQ universal floorhead and a TurboTeQ turbo brush floorhead.
The Miele Boost CX1 delivers disappointing performance on hard floors. It picks up fine material but plows a lot of medium and large debris forward and releases a lot of retained debris when you pull it back.
Miele recommends the straight-suction AllTeQ universal floorhead on hard floors and advises against the TurboTeQ turbo brush floorhead due to possible scratching. The Parquet Twister tool included with the Miele Boost CX1 Parquet delivers similar results, plowing even more debris forward while retaining a bit less material.
This vacuum delivers mediocre performance on high-pile carpets using the TurboTeQ turbo brush floorhead Miele recommends for this usage. It picks up most of the fine debris but retains a lot of medium debris that gets thrown out of the floorhead by the spinning brushroll. Material also gets stuck in the floorhead between cleanings and gets released over time.
The universal straight-suction floorhead is very difficult to move on carpet since it strongly pulls against the carpet. It doesn't perform much better, with more fine debris left behind, especially at the edges.
Turning the suction level down means the brushroll throws around less retained material since it's air-driven and spinning more slowly, but leaves more fine material behind.
This vacuum offers adequate performance picking up debris from low-pile carpet using its recommended universal straight-suction floorhead. It picks up most fine material but leaves some medium and large debris behind and traps material in its floorhead.
The TurboTeQ turbo brush floorhead performs a little worse, leaving more fine and medium debris behind but picking up more large material. However, it's easier to move on carpet because the suction doesn't strongly pull the floorhead into the carpet as much as it does with the straight-suction AllTeQ universal floorhead.
The vacuum offers good performance picking up pet hair from carpet with its TurboTeQ turbo brush floorhead. The brushroll does a good job of detaching pet hair from carpet, lifting all of it from the surface and most of the embedded hair as well. However, the brushroll is driven by a belt to the right of center, leading to an inactive zone and requiring an extra pass.
The floorhead retains debris from previous cleaning sessions and redeposits it. It's extremely difficult to disassemble and clean the floorhead completely.
Miele recommends the straight suction universal floorhead for heavily soiled carpets, with the suction power level set to maximum. This suction makes it very hard to move the floorhead on carpet and leads to poor results.
This vacuum delivers good suction. It should be able to pick up heavy and deeply embedded material. However, the suction isn't as high as the bagged Miele Classic C1, which uses the same motor. The bagless filter system uses more energy from the motor.
Miele's powerful 1200W motor delivers excellent airflow at its highest Hard Floor/Tile power level. At lower power levels, the airflow measures:
This is an impressively quiet vacuum. It's even quieter than the comparable bagged Miele Classic C1, and opening the vent doesn't change the sound levels. The vacuum won't be overly disruptive to your household activities.
The Miele Boost CX1 has impressive maneuverability. The power cord and hose are long enough to allow you to easily clean an average room without moving to a different outlet. The universal floorhead's wheels move very freely, and the slim floorhead makes it easy to maneuver into every position. The TurboTeQ floorhead works well on loose tasseled rugs and doesn't catch on the tassels.
The soft bristle brush and upholstery tool are easy to attach and work well on tables, shelves, and furniture fabric. Unfortunately, you can't move the floorhead very far under low furniture because the head won't stay flat, breaking the suction. You'll also find that the TurboTeQ head doesn't have a lot of torque, and the brushroll frequently stops spinning on loose carpets.
This vacuum seals in all fine particles and keeps dust out of the air, which is beneficial for pet owners and allergy sufferers.
